In the quest for a smarter, more energy-efficient home, the choice of smart thermostats is paramount. This year, the market is brimming with innovative options that promise not only to enhance your home’s comfort but also to significantly reduce your energy consumption. Today’s smart thermostats are equipped with sensors that detect occupancy and adjust the temperature accordingly. The heating can also be separated into different Zones which can be turned off when not in use ultimately, saving you money. They also learn from your habits and preferences to create a heating and cooling schedule that matches your lifestyle while optimising energy use.
A study of 2,000 British homeowners has found that a large majority have adapted their behaviour over the last 12 months to use less energy during the energy crisis, with more than a quarter of people measuring or tracking how and where they use energy, and a rising number investing in a smart thermostat to control their heating, both with the aim of reducing energy bills.
In the past decade smart thermostats have saved Brits £325 million on energy bills and 1 million tons of carbon emissions. So concerned are we British homeowners about reducing our energy use that we have inveseted around £1,250 in energy efficiency measures in the last 12 months.
The research also showed that smart technology users were twice as optimistic about achieving Net Zero ambitions, compared to those who are yet to make the investment. Over half (51%) of the UK population believe it is important for homes to become more sustainable but general levels of optimism around achieving this have fallen, compared to 2021 survey results.
